Prototype Release


Lust for Grains prototype available to play! 

Looking for lots of feedback on the game in its current state, as well as further feedback on updates to come. 

To begin, you should build a fenced area for the chicken run, one chicken coop and some fencing is provided at the start. Next, buy your first chicken! As long as you keep your chicken's stats up, they will lay high quality eggs. Sell the eggs for coins, and use the coins to expand the chicken run, buy more coops to house chickens, buy new chickens, and keep them fed.

Current build includes the following features:

  • Build items with a click. Purchase coops and fences with the shop buttons and place them in the play area.
  • Buy new chickens. Purchase a chicken from the shop to add it to the play area.
  • Sell eggs. Healthy and happy chickens produce higher quality eggs, at a higher rate, that are worth more coins. Click on the eggs to sell them for coins.
  • Care for the chickens. Provide the chickens with food and water buy purchasing them from the shop and adding them to the play area.


What's coming next?

I am working on the following features to include to the game:

  • Grid based building. Fences and coops to be placed in the play area using a grid based system.
  • Chicken enrichment. Toys and other enrichment activities to purchase for the chickens to interact with to increase a happiness stat to produce better quality eggs.
  • Mess clean up. The more food the chickens eat, the more of a mess they make! Click on the messes to clean them up to keep the chickens happiness up.
  • Pet the chickens. Click on chickens to pet them to increase their happiness. Go into a petting mode where you can get closer to the chicken to give them pats and special treats.
  • Unhealthy chickens will be removed from the play area, so keep them healthy!
  • Balancing! Adjusting the prices for items and the chickens stats to make a better play experience.
  • Audio and visual updates!


Some of these upcoming changes have been experimented with a little bit already, but are not yet ready to include into the game. This prototype should give you an understanding of  the overall gameplay experience, core mechanics and art direction.  If you have any suggestions for features that you'd like to see included in the game that aren't already listed above, please let me know!


The biggest upcoming challenge will be creating the grid based build system, so I may have to alter my approach if I am unable  to come up with a viable solution. Any recommendations are appreciated!  I am also needing a lot of feedback on the balance of the game to find out what feels good, so let me know which direction you think the balances might need to change!


Player Feedback & Questions:

  • How do you move fences? You can't. But that is a great point! I will look into including that as a feature of the updated building system for the next upload!
  • I have a 4k monitor and cannot read the info in the top left. That's a great point! I do plan on working on scalability in the next upload too, that will scale the game resolution and UI for different size monitors and player preferences.
  • I ran out of money because they aren't laying enough eggs for the cost of the water they need! That sounds like a balancing issue, great feedback! I will work on figuring out what the best balance for these levels and prices are, so stay tuned for some updates to test out different balancing options in the future!

Known Bugs:

  • Looks like if you have a lot of chickens, then buy new chickens and place some water, ALL the chickens lay a new egg. Really not sure what's causing that one, but have fun!
